RE: Firestone air bags - part #2400

SoCalGlide - do you think you may have been over-weight and the bracket bent? I am not trying to get smart with you, but I am just curious. Would you have any suggestions for me on how to get it right? Do I need to get stronger brackets? I wonder if Firestone knows about this and now make (provide) stronger brackets so those of us who don't work in sheet metal fabrication job (or even know anyone who does) don't have to worry about it? Thanks for your help with my questions and concerns.

RE: Firestone air bags - part #2400

SMarquez - no, I was actually on the phone calling around for pricing and information. I had made serveral phone calls prior to calling this person and no one had said anything about the brackets bending (or failing) so this is why I post this question on this forum. This is where you can get the real answers from those who acutally use the different products and how they perform. That is why I appreciate everyones help before I make a purchase.

RE: Firestone Ride-Rite air bags - part # 2400

The competitor is Pac Brake and they mount spring to frame (I think that is what he said). He was calling a dealer to see how the installation went on a truck just like mine, but I have not heard from him yet. As soon as I do, I will ask again, how are his air bags different. If he does not call back soon, I will be calling him. Then I can let you know how they are different. Thanks for your response.

RE: Firestone air bags - part #2400

Thanks for your help and response. That is a good idea about asking the truck camper owners this question and I will ask them as well. Again, I appreciate your help on this question as I had not heard about this being a problem.

Firestone Ride-Rite air bags - part # 2400

For those who have the Firestone Ride-Rite air bags (part #2400), have you had any trouble with the brackets bending? I am interested in purchasing some air bags for my 2005 Ford F350 CC SB SRW and I checking into the Firestones, but a competitor to Firestone said there have been problems with this model and the brackets bending under load. I just wondered if this competitor is just trying to sell me his product, or if there really is a problem with the brackets bending? If there is a problem, has Firestone fixed it? Firestone has a good name and reputation, so I just needed some help from those of you who have had experience with the Firestone air bags (part #2400) and see it there is a potential problem, and if so, has it been fixed and do I need to be concerned about it. Thank you in advance for your help!

RE: Which air bags to buy?

Thanks, Rcchallenger, I will do that :B Sounds like I can't go wrong with either one, that is, Firestone or Air Lift. Thanks for ALL the help, everyone. I appreciate it!

RE: Which air bags to buy?

Thanks for the responses and information. It sounds like you can mix and match the airbags and compressor systems. Do you suppose there is any problem with warranties if you mix the Firestone Ride-Rite airbags with the Air Lift compressor units? Have many of you done this, that is, have air bags from Firestone and the compressor unit from Air Lift? Thank you.

Which air bags to buy?

I am in the market to buy air bags for my 2005 Ford F350 CC SWB SRW 4x4. I am looking at Firestone Ride-Rite and Air Lift. They both look good so that is where I need help. I would am looking to purchase the air bags with the compressor so I can adjust the air bags from inside the truck. Any suggestions? Any preferences? Do they both function the same and are they both durable? One better than the other? Thanks for the help! Edit: Moved to Modifications & Accessories category

RE: Pullrite super glide owners - question for you?

Thanks for all the quick responses. I appreciate it and all the advice and answers to my questions! I will make sure to get the proper lubricant and get some help in getting the hitch in and out of the truck or leave it attached to the 5ver. I forgot to ask another question - is the 18K super glide a 4-way pivot head? I assume "yes", but thought I would check with all the experts out there. Thanks again! This forum is great!

Pullrite super glide owners - question for you?

I am looking to purchase a 18K Pullrite Super glide hitch for my F350 CC SB SRW truck. I was reading in the February issue of trailer life magazine where a guy wrote a very strong opinion about "hitching up" with a super glide hitch and how difficult it was to hitch up (or un-hitch) unless you were perfectly alligned. The editors note (rebuttal) seemed to explain that you can hitch and un-hitch without too much diffulty. But this got me thinking (dangerous for me). Questions - can you hitch and un-hitch easily if you more than a 16 degree angle? Do you have to do a bit of fore-and-aft driving to alligned? Can you physically move the hitch head (in the back of the truck) so you can get hitched up? Is this a pain or not too bad? Would you buy the super glide hitch again? Also, can one person remove the 18K hitch from the back of the truck? Or do you need two people to accomplish this? I realize that I could purchase a manual slider hitch, but the super glide seems "dummy proof". I am careful about things, but this just seems like a good way to go and something else I would not have to think about when making tight turns. Thanks for your help! I would appreciate your comments and opinions.

RE: Weekend Warrior SLC slide issues?

Thanks again, for the information and the pictures and links to other threads. For those who have the 2nd slide on the SLC model, is your trailer secure? In other words, could someone have access from the outside to your TH (from under the couch) when the slide is out? It sounds like the insulating questions can be improved with a few mods - thanks to The Follands for the information and link. My only other concern now is that do I have enough truck? If I purchase a WW SLC 3705 with a 2nd slide, the weight might be an issue. Maybe I won't get the 2nd slide to save on weight. They say it adds 400lbs to the TH. I have a 2005 Ford F350 CC SB SRW truck. What do you think, anyone? It seems like some of the other TH's of this size are similar in weight if not more. Thanks in advance for the advice.

RE: Weekend Warrior SLC slide issues?

Thank you for your help and information. For those who have the slide, are you glad you have it? Would you do it again? With no floor, do you feel there is enough insulation to keep things warm in cold weather? I plan on using the TH in cold weather (as well as warm weather) and would like to make sure it will be warm enough inside with the slide option. Also, for those who have the WW, are you happy with your TH? Any issues? I realize that all RV's have things that need to be fixed, etc. I am just curious as to your overall satisfaction? Thanks again, for all the help and information!

Weekend Warrior SLC slide issues?

I am in the market for a TH and one of the models (there are a couple of others) I am considering is the WW SLC 3705. I called WW and the SLC 3705 has an option of being able to put a slide in the living area. I was wondering if anyone out there has one of these models with a slide and if you have had any trouble with it? They described the slide as having no floor so as to accomodate a sand buggy, as an example. I am having trouble picturing this in my mind as I have never seen one like this (without a floor) and if there are any problems with this? I am sure WW has engineered this correctly, but I am just curious if anyone has a slide and if it is working OK? Any problems? Thank you for your help! I appreciate it!

RE: Looking for all Weekend Warrior SLC Owners

Thanks again, for all the information and advice. I appreciate the help. The door jam sticker says rear GAWR - 7000 lbs and my tires are rates at 3640 lbs per tire. I do plan on installing airbags and I will not be totally loaded with water while traveling. I have a travel trailer currently and I don't travel with a full water tank to save a little on weight. Once I get close, I fill up with water. I will also take into consideration the trailer GVWR before purchasing a TH. I do want to be careful and responsible. Thanks again, for the help!

RE: Looking for all Weekend Warrior SLC Owners

Thanks for the information. This does help alot! I have a 2005 Ford F350 CC SB SRW, so I want to make sure that I have enough truck. I know many, many people would not even hesitate to tow this weight with a SRW one ton truck and I might be one that will try it. I have seen several that do it and talked with several others that tow this kind of weight with a SRW one ton truck with not problems. It seems like my truck will handle it OK, but I also realize a dually would be better. I believe WW only uses 16" tires (load range E) now, at least on the 5vers and maybe on the TT too. And I did not even think you were bragging, just happy with your new RV. Thanks for everyone's help! Merry Christmas!

RE: Looking for all Weekend Warrior SLC Owners

Congratulations on the new purchase. You mentioned that it is heavy. How heavy is it? What is the dry weight? I am looking at a WW SLC 3705 and would like to know how heavy your rig is. This will help me decide if I have enough truck for a WW SLC 3705. I realize that the SLC 3705 will weigh slightly less. Thanks for the help and again, congratulations!

RE: Short bed truck fifth wheel towing question.

Those of you that have the Pullrite automatic slider, do you have to back up straight to connect, or can you connect on an angle? I am just doing my homework right now as I am going to purchase a TH in the next few months. I realize some of the newer TH's are built so a slider hitch may not be necessary at all, but I have not decided on which TH to purchase yet (Fuzion, WW, Raptor, Ragen, etc. are options). I think I will purchase a slider hitch just to be safe. I am just not sure if I should go auto slider or manual slider. Thanks for the information. I appreciate it!

RE: Short bed truck fifth wheel towing question.

I have been looking at the Pullrite auto slider and was concerned about having to hitch (connect) straight on and not at an angle. Based on those who have experience, you can connect at an angle? That is nice to know. It is difficult to do? The auto slider looks like the way to go for me, at least. Thanks for the information.
